Catania is the second largest city in the island of Sicily in Southern Italy. The town is situated on the east coast of the island, midway between Messina and Siracus and is at the foothills of the active volcano Mount Etna. The city is lively and jubilant. There are hundreds of restaurants and a lot of places to see, but the city is not considered as a premier tourist hub. It also suffers from the problem of far too much traffic and the buildings are not exactly picture perfect, owing to the dust of the ash that comes from the volcano. Catania's airport is Fontanarossa, which is situated approximately 5 kilometer south the city. There are direct flights to Rome, Milan, Stuttgart, Munich and other cities. The train connections lead too all big cities on the island and to the big cities of Italy including Palermo, Messina, Rome, Syrakus and Milan. The station is also the starting point of the Etna-train, which goes around the Etna Motorways leading to Messina and toward Palermo. Catania has around 400,000 people.
