Pompeii attracts millions of tourists every year. Pompeii serves a variety of delicacies to tourists. The cuisine of Pompeii has changed from a long duration of time. Many new habits and techniques of cooking has been added to the culinary of Pompeii. Some of the important ingredients that include in the dinning in Pompeii are: Fish, Garum, also known as Liquamen, desserts that mainly consists of fruits and alcohol.
At the time of dinner with musicians, acrobats, poets performance and dinner conversation plays an important part. Beef: though not popular, as cattle are working animal amd is used for ploughing and pulling cart. Even calf meat is not popular.
Pork: this is themost usual and best liked meat. All parts of the pig were eaten and the unusal parts like breasts and uterus of young sow were considered delicious.
Fish is served only in the later period amd is more expensive than normal type of meat. Garum, also known as liquamen was the universal sauce added to everything. It was prepared by subjecting salted fish, in particular mackreel intestine in a very slow thermal process. Spices, especially pepper plays an important role in the Pompeii's cuisine.
